| AAUW’s Mission is to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research. AAUW’s voice has long influenced legislative debate on critical social issues such as education, sex discrimination, civil rights, reproductive choice, affirmative action, Title IX, welfare reform, vocational education, pay equity, family and medical leave and health care reform. Orlando/Winter Park AAUW Awards The University of Central Florida was awarded a grant from AAUW as the result of a partnership between our branch and UCF, and the expertise of member Dr. Leslie Sue Lieberman, to study sexual harassment on campus. See UCF grant page. 1) AAUW has received recognition annually from the Orange County Education Department for our partnership with the PACE Center for Girls from 1998 to the present. 2) We have received the Florida’s Finest Award for mid- to large size branches for 2005-06. This is the top award from the state for branch achievement and support to AAUW’s mission and its funds. We were honored for the largest membership increase in Florida, the 4th largest contribution to the Legal Advocacy Fund, and as one of top ten in the state for contributions to the Educational Foundation. 3) In 2004, we received the Platinum Award, the highest honor from National AAUW-21st Century recognition award for innovative programming, promoting education and integrating technology. Scholarships are also available to PACE students through our scholarship program. d. Partnership in Education with the Orange County School System through PACE, member participation in Teach-Ins at area schools in the Fall, and participation in the Junior Achievement Program teaching JA courses at assigned schools/grades during the academic year. AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund AAUW’s Legal Advocacy Fund (LAF) works to combat sex discrimination in higher education and in workplaces through campus outreach programs, an online resource library, and research reports. LAF also provides support to workplace sex discrimination cases that have the potential to make a difference for all women. In principle and practice, AAUW values and seeks a diverse membership. There shall be no barriers to full participation in this organization on the basis of gender, race, creed, age, sexual orientation, national origin, disability or class. Our Purpose
